Hating Women is Not Feminist

May 13th, 2008

Inspired by this and this.

I used to be the kind of girl who didn’t like other girls. I still often feel more comfortable in the company of men. I like sports and beer and politics, and those conversations seemed to come more easily from guys. I reveled in being the token female–I even have a T-shirt that says it, from my gig writing comic reviews at Newsarama.

But I’ve got to point out to the anti-sex crowd and the anti-Hillary crowd (and hell, I’m no fan of Senator Clinton as you well know) that hating women IS NOT FEMINIST.

Comparing Hillary Clinton to Miss Havisham or Hitler is not feminist, nor is it proving your point. (And on this one, especially, there are plenty of points to be made without resorting to gender-based bashing.)

And radical feminists telling sex workers that they’re felons and felons can’t vote is so completely screwed up I can’t even fathom it. It’s embracing the very system you’re supposed to be fighting against to shame and hurt another woman and deny her right to speak. You’re trying to silence her, but thankfully Ren’s not the type to be silenced.

Shit, leaving me a blog comment making cracks about the size of my ass isn’t feminist.

The world is half female, and you’re guaranteed not to like all of them. No biggie. But being hateful toward other women is not OK. If you can’t make an argument without resorting to personal attacks, you shouldn’t bother. (And I know I run the risk of resorting to phallologocentric logic there, but STFU, kay? You get my drift.)
