Part 37874637458, no doubt.
McCain refers to Obama’s speech as a “hysterical diatribe.”
Hysteria, of course, was
“a once-common medical diagnosis, made exclusively in women, which is no longer recognized by modern medical authorities. It was a popular diagnosis in Western nations, during the Victorian era, for women who exhibited a wide array of symptoms including faintness, nervousness, insomnia, fluid retention, heaviness in abdomen, muscle spasm, shortness of breath, irritability, loss of appetite for food or sex, and a “tendency to cause trouble”.[1]” (Wikipedia)
The term comes from the Greek word for uterus.
So not only is Obama irrational, he’s a woman. McCain and Carville should hang out!
As Zuzu at Feministe pointed out a while back, sexism on the campaign trail cuts both ways. And it’s continually used, especially against Democrats.
Once again, I can’t recommend this book enough on the subject.
