To friends of Lori Plazinski (and friends of friends) -
This is the website created to help an Alpha Xi Delta sorority sister of mine, Laura Rayman, find a Bone Marrow Donor match. She is only 27 years old and has a small son. She also has Leukemia: www.BoneMarrowForLaura.org (still in draft form)
This is the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) site that should have all the answers: http://www.marrow.org/HELP/index.html (for Laura’s campaign, please do not respond for donations or kits through this site, due to funding issues.) If you have any questions, you can contact NMDP (or me).
For a free kit (no cost to you) to type your marrow, I have a small supply in my office. I can get more if needed. If you won’t see me in the next month, or if you want to host your own drive, Gina at NIH’s NMDP will happily send you a kit or “Drive in a Box” directly. The NIH Marrow Donor Center has generously offered grant funding for this drive through May 19, 2008.
Alpha Xi Delta’s Cheaspeake and Maryland Metro Alumae Associations, and Montgomery County’s Diversity Council, are supporting this effort. But we need to reach more people…
I know folks tell you to contact everyone in your email lists, but this is really a matter of life & death. Time is limited, so please respond and tell a few people. Read the NMDP eligibility, and if you are not eligible, pass this on to someone who is. Anyone who gives blood should be willing to participate. Many folks not eligible to give blood through the Red Cross may still pass the NMDP criteria!
Nothing bad will happen to you, if you don’t forward this message. Everything good will happen for Laura, her friends and her family, when she does find a match. Also, it is not just Laura in need of a Marrow Donor…
If this is something that you can distribute through any of your friends, companies, organizations or clubs, please feel free to share this email. We can contact Gina for kits immediately. As I mentioned, we hope the process will be changing soon to allow for donations directly into an NMDP “account” to support Laura’s Drive campaign and to also allow for direct online registration at Laura’s website, so please check the wesite for updates or let me know before any major distributions of this information.
